The Story of Hippie Witch: A Signature Scent That Almost Wasn’t

13 June, 2025

Every brand has a few defining moments—the products that shape its identity, the experiments that pay off, and the second tries that somehow become staples. For me, Hippie Witch is all of the above.

This irresistible blend of patchouli, lemongrass and lavender has become one of my top sellers and a customer favorite across three different products: soap, perfume oil and lotion. But believe it or not, Hippie Witch almost didn’t make it.

Mystique Batch 1

When I first created this scent, my business was brand new and still operating under the brand Thumbprint Soap. I called the scent Mystique and released it as a bar soap (see pics of it to the right). I loved it immediately—it was earthy and untamed. But it just didn’t sell very well. I didn't make it again after the last bar of the second batch sold, but I didn't trash the recipe.

I knew that scent was solid, so I kept it safe, kept it secret. And when I started thinking about a rebrand, that's when I brought it back. I gave it a new identity—one that better captured its free-spirited vibe—and Hippie Witch was born. As soon as I put it out, people were drawn to it. They picked it up, they took a sniff, and they had to have it.

Since then, Hippie Witch has become one of the most enduring fragrances in my lineup, and it’s helped inspire the entire witchy, mystical aesthetic Cedar Witch Goods is now known for. You’ll find it in:

  • Mystique Batch 2

Hippie Witch Soap – A skin-loving bar that blends dark patchouli with bright lemongrass and soothing lavender. It’s fresh, earthy, and just a little bit magical.

  • Hippie Witch Lotion – Thick, creamy, and long-lasting moisture, paired with that same irresistible scent.

  • Hippie Witch Perfume Oil – Layer the scent with a roll-on version of our signature blend that lingers on the skin in all the right ways.

This scent taught me one of the biggest lessons of my early business days: sometimes it's not the product that needs to change—it's the way you present it. The right name, the right vibe, the right packaging...they all matter. And in the case of Hippie Witch, a simple renaming turned an underperforming bar of soap into a cornerstone of my brand.

If you’re looking for a place to start with Cedar Witch Goods, I always recommend Hippie Witch. She’s the one that stuck around, even when no one noticed her the first time. And now? She’s kind of a star.
